Tavistock RFC Girls' U17s 12 Exeter RFC Girls' U17s 5 IN wet and windy conditions, a scrappy and stoppage full game was expected. But both teams did exceptionally well when handling the ball and reduced the amount of predicted scrums, leading to a well fought game. From the start Tavistock looked edgy as the game was reduced to 12 a side with players playing in new positions. But after a quick Exeter try, Tavistock stepped up a gear with consistent pressure on the opposition pack, led by McCall, Megechie and Lane pressurising the front row and turning over 75% of Exeter's possession. After good phases of tight play by forwards Warnett and De Carles, Honey was put in space and scored a 30-metre try. Tavistock started dominating, with good tackles going in from fly half Hair and devastating breaks and link up plays from centres Daymond and Lucus. After the break Tavistock kept the pressure on with strong ball-carrying and consistent offloading led by captain Daymond, earning her back of the match. The wind was with Tavistock in the second half and was taken advantage of. The second try came from a deep kick by Honey, which was well chased by her and Conn, resulting in a tackle off the ball and a penalty try. As well as Daymond earning back of the match, McCall was strong up front turning over plenty of ball, and De Carles, playing in an unrecognised position of second row, was faultless — both earned forward of the match. l The Tamar Cup takes place at Tavistock Rugby Club on December 17.
