A PONY training centre in Moretonhampstead recently enjoyed a successful open day which raised a total of £330 for the organisation. Dartmoor Pony Training Centre, a non-profit voluntary organisation, held the Dartmoor Hill Pony information day last month. DPTC worked with the Friends of Dartmoor Hill Pony to put this event together to promote the pony as a breed and to show why it is such a special breed that should be looked after and supported. Charlotte Faulkner of the FOTDHP was there with four of her ponies that have proven, over the years, how versatile they can be. The friends were also demonstrating and talking about various techniques which work well with unhandled Dartmoor Hill Ponies. The centre?s volunteers Natalie Torr and Kathryn Hulland thanked everyone who attended the day, and those who helped contribute. Natalie and Kathryn set up the centre in 2005 so they could train and re-home ponies, offer advice, marketing and training, support to people wanting to sell their ponies privately, and offer advice and information on suitable training methods for working with Dartmoor Hill ponies. DPTC has various ponies looking for permanent loan homes, including a six-month old foal, as well as a couple of older ponies which are ready for breaking. Anyone interested in loaning a pony, buying a pony direct from a farmer or working with the centre should call Natalie or Kathryn on 01364 654609 or go to http://www.dptc.org.uk">www.dptc.org.uk
