A DREAM to take part in the world's most prestigious dog show has come true for an Okehampton resident who will be on her way to Crufts next month.
Dawn Smith's prize-winning whippet Peter has qualified for Crufts and will be competing for glory on the Hound and Terrier Day on March 7 at the NEC in Birmingham.
The 15-month-old dog booked his place at Crufts by winning at the South Wales Championship Show recently but he has been a class act since a puppy.
'He is really special — a lovely dog, and he was already a champion when we bought him at nine months old,' said Dawn.
'I go to Crufts every year as a spectator but to take part and be part of that electric atmosphere is very exciting for me.'
Dawn, who works at Okehampton's Somerfield store, has been keeping dogs for ten years and regularly attends shows all over the country with her six whippets.
