Okehampton 5
Dawlish A 1
OKEHAMPTON men's hockey team began their season with an emphatic win.
There was a tentative start from both sides, but Okehampton soon began to exert pressure and earned a short corner. This was converted by Richard Jones at the second attempt.
Okehampton's second goal was started by John Jarvis carrying the ball from defence. After neat passing Sean Glossop collected an accurate cross to score on his return to the side. Robert Duffy added a third when he jinked through the defence and rounded the keeper with ease.
This purple patch of three goals in a short space of time disheartened Dawlish, but they came back and scored on the stroke of half-time.
The start of the second half saw the Okehampton goal under pressure, but Keith Dennis made some good saves and Dawlish were unable to add to their tally.
Richard Jones added two goals to take the game away from the visitors.
This week Okehampton entertain Isca at 1pm on the college all-weather pitch.
If anyone is interested in playing hockey the club run training sessions on a Tuesday night from 8.15 to 9.15 on the all-weather pitch. Any new players will be welcome.
