SDFL Premier Division

Chagford 3

Brixham Villa 2

TWO goals behind at the break, Chagford seemed to be heading for another defeat and a further slide down the division table. But they clawed their way back.

For the first 15 minutes, Villa were camped in their hosts' half and mounted orays into their box. Reserve team keeper Antony Geering and his defence held out until the ball fell kindly to Slough who fired home.

The remaining half-hour saw Chagford lift their game, playing their way in to contention but without an end result. So it was with the opening minutes of the second half until, against the run of play, Love popped up with Brixham's second.

On another day, Chagford may have lost spirit and interest but they stuck to their task and were duly rewarded. Full-back, Warwick Botham, found his way forward and slammed in a left-footed shot.

The visitors were rocking at this point and it came as no surprise when Andrew Davis stuck out a foot, to stab Chadwick's free kick over the line from ten yards.

Chagford had the run of the ball now but Davis' second, eleven minutes from time, served only to prompt Villa into waking up. For the last ten minutes the hosts needed some resolute defending and superb handling from Geering to see the game out and the points deservedly won.

This week the Firsts travel to high-flyers Brixham United — kick-off 2.30pm.

SDFL Division 6

Teign Village Res 1

Chagford Res 5

CHAGFORD Reserves continued their amazing away form by visiting and trouncing their nearest divisional neighbours, consolidating their second place in the table.

For the opening minutes, Teign took the game to their visitors but were to quickly fade when Jon Scarry scored in the 10th and 20th minutes — both goals set up by his strike partner, Vince Reeves. The combination of a youthful Scarry linked with the experience of Reeves is paying dividends for the Reserves.

The second half opened as the first closed, with Chagford in the ascendancy and Ralph capped his recent fine form with a tremendous finish on 50 minutes.

Reeves was to follow in and score, just five minutes later and Chagford were coasting. Adam Stocks took over from Scarry and busied himself in making life as difficult for the home defence. It fell to Reeves to score his second, in the 71st minute, his third in as many games.

Bowes and Bint came on for Licence and Mortimore, minutes later for Chagford. James Licence had earned a starting place, following an impressive substitute display last week and made a fine contribution. The Villagers were to have the last word with a late consolation, denting Cork's ambitions for a clean sheet.

This weekend, the Reserves entertain Denbury Athletic Reserves in a match vital to improving their home form. Kick-off 2.30pm.
