GRENVILLE Jago, a name synonymous with darts across the west, has died at the age of 65.

For three decades, Grenville, who was born in Horrabridge, schooled in Tavistock and has lived for the past 20 years in Callington, was a force to be reckoned with in the darts league, with his precise marking ability as well known as his playing.

He played for the Swingletree pub team and in the Lamerton Darts League but was also heavily involved in Superleague county darts in Cornwall.

'He marked for the ladies and men's team and only ever made one mistake in 30 years and even that was not his fault,' said his wife Pat. 'He was known for his mathematic skills and he was very very particular — he was a perfectionist in everything he did.'

A trained carpet fitter, Grenville built a reputation by word of mouth and travelled all over the country to fit carpets.

After working for various firms he decided to go it alone and Grenvilles the carpet fitting firm now has his eldest and youngest sons at the helm.

Paying tribute to her husband Pat Jago said: 'He was my husband of 43 years and he fathered four fantastic children who loved him to bits.

'He was not perfect, I don't think I could have coped with him if he was. He was nearly always right, well several times, and we had some blazing rows but we made up.'

Grenville Jago was diagnosed with stomach cancer in May and died on June 8 'quietly and with no pain'.

Pat said: 'We, who loved him, will miss him so will a great many other people whose lives he touched but we will not forget him.'
