A packed Butchers’ Hall audience were given a preview of the work of 33 Year 5 children from Tavistock Community Primary, St Peter’s Primary, Whitchurch Primary and Mount Kelly Prep schools. Mentored over a period of three days each by Whitchurch artist Annette Sharp, each child prepared a portfolio of work in watercolour, acrylic and materials collage expressing their joy of Dartmoor.
The exhibition was organised by Tavistock Rotary Club. Rotary president Graham Parker said: ‘I honestly didn’t know what to expect when Rotary was asked if we would work with Annette to organise this exhibition but even in my wildest dreams, I don’t think I would have imagined something as wonderful as this. The quality, colour and sheer joy of the children’s work is amazing and they all say how much fun they had with Annette and how much they learned from the project.’
Both the mayor and Graham acknowledged the superb contributions of the exhibition’s sponsors as well as the exhibition’s organiser, Rotarian John Bull and Butchers’ Hall manager Becky Hadfield.
