DARTMOOR Search and Rescue Team Tavistock (DSRT) was called to help a male who had fallen while walking along the canal path in Tavistock on Sunday.

The ambulance service requested the assistance of DSRT just before 6pm after a 39-year-old male had fallen while walking along the canal towpath about a kilometre from the main road and was suffering with severe pain in his back.

There was a rapid response from team members who had only just got home from a tiring weekend on Dartmoor, providing safety cover for the Ten Tors event.

The location of the incident was difficult to access from the road, the team deployed its wheeled stretcher as well as the rope access kit. After pain relief had been administered, the casualty was placed on a vacuum mattress and stretchered to the ambulance waiting at the roadside.
