NOW in its 11th year, the unique and popular golf tournament The Dartmoor Pony was hosted by Yelverton this weekend. This annual competition brings together six mixed pairs from each of the golf clubs situated within the Dartmoor National Park ? Yelverton, Tavistock, Okehampton, Wrangaton and Teign Valley. The Pony trophy is presented to the club that accumulates the most points from a better ball stableford competition. The competition becomes more popular each year. It provides 60 happy golfers with a very sociable and highly competitive day, in an atmosphere of camaraderie and club pride, playing on some of the most interesting and beautiful courses in Devon. The Dartmoor Pony Trophy was presented to the winners, Teign Valley, by Margaret Macfarlane, who was the first to receive the trophy when the competition started in 1995. Teign Valley accumulated a record 241 points, with runners up, Wrangaton, getting 216 points. This is the fourth successive year that Teign Valley have won the trophy. Prizes were also awarded to the pair with the best score ? competition organiser Sue Pearman and Brian Brimble; and also for nearest the pins for Dave Gove, Yelverton?s Club Captain, and Pat Masterton from Teign Valley.
