TEAMS 'on the run' during the 18th annual Dartmoor Jailbreak raised an incredible £25,000 for charity this weekend.
Foot and mouth disease restrictions meant the teams had to leave from the grounds of Vranch House School in Exeter instead of Dartmoor Prison — but 110 'prisoners' still took part.
Money raised for the event benefits Vranch House, a school for children with cerebral palsy, plus other charities nominated by the teams.
Sue Gould, organiser of the Jailbreak, said it was a 'remarkable achievement' to raise so much money in such difficult times.
'It is much more than I was expecting and a tribute to all those taking part,' said Sue.
The teams were challenged to create records while on the run, without paying for any transport during the 48-hour event.
The Fun Loving Criminals team from Princetown and Plymouth flew to Amsterdam, Vino Sullivans of Gunnislake aimed to create a new record by visiting 13 champagne houses, the Reuters team from Chagford, Tiverton and Exeter dressed as pirates, some getting as far as EuroDisney.
Meanwhile students from Marjons College passed 254 bus stops en route to Plymouth via Totnes by bus.
