DARTMOOR National Park Authority has just adopted its Statement of Community Involvement in sustainable development on Dartmoor. The document sets out the authority's policy for involving the community in the preparation of the development plan for the national park. It also sets out the approach to be taken towards community involvement in the consideration of planning applications. Earlier versions of the document were published for public consultation and comment in May 2005 and January 2006. An inspector conducted a public examination of the document in the latter part of 2006 to assess its 'soundness'. The inspector's binding report was sent to the authority in November 2006. The new planning system puts strong emphasis on the involvement of the community and a wide range of other bodies in the preparation of planning documents. The aim of development planning is to encourage and promote sustainable development. The adopted Statement of Community Involvement is accessible on the authority's website, http://www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk">www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk within the planning pages.
