Okehampton Men?s First team 4 Plymouth Marjons D 3 STILL searching for their first win in the league this season, Okehampton men?s hockey first team played Marjons D in Okehampton on Saturday. Marjons took the lead, early in the half with a simple tap in. Okehampton came straight back. Breaking from defence the ball moved wide and Johnny Cross on the right wing played well, feeding the forwards with quality ball. Colin Lethbridge was on hand to make the most of the service to score the first Okehampton goal. Marjons? reply was to take the lead again from a well-struck short corner. Both sides battled hard in midfield to gain the ascendancy, and Okehampton were eventually rewarded with a short corner which Rob Hall slotted into the back of the net to take the teams to the interval all square at 2-2. Rejuvenated after the break and the introduction of subs Mike Reynolds and Darren Read, Okehampton went off well. Read made an immediate impression on the young Marjons side, and caused the defence numerous problems. Marjons took the lead again midway through the half, and defended strongly to protect their lead. Rob Hall had other ideas. He moved strongly through two tackles and struck the ball well to level the scores. The tempo increased as both sides pushed hard for the winning score. Okehampton?s determination to gain their first win drove them on, and as players crowded the Marjons circle, Darren Read got his stick to the ball first to slot the winning goal. The win has given the team a major boost before this week?s league game against the second team.
