TAVISTOCK is to be gripped with dancing fever this May bank holiday. While medieval dancing takes place in the Square to celebrate 900 years of the town?s market charter, hundreds of local school children will be taking part in a Folk Dance Festival at the Pannier Market. Youngsters from schools in Mary Tavy, Delaware, Stonehouse and Plymouth will be participating, as well as local pupils from Mount House, St Peter?s, Whitchurch, St Rumon?s and Tavistock Primary. Each school will be performing a folk dance which they have chosen for themselves as well as participating in other dances where everybody can take part. Two callers will be on hand to direct those who want to join in. Refreshments and a number of charity stalls will also be set up around the hall. The event, which takes place this Saturday, is being organised by the Tavistock Lions Club in conjunction with the Tavistock Folk Dance Club and there is a small admission fee for adults of 70p and 30p for children. Lion Steve Grummit asks that anyone requiring further information calls him on 01822 615526.
