PERFORMERS from the Gunnislake area are to take to the stage in the West End. Caroline Chapman, who co-owns the Orchard Studios in Gunnislake, said 48 of their dancers had performed a seven-minute piece entitled ?Circo Negro y Blanco? (Black and White Circus) at the Hall for Cornwall last October, which had gone down very well. As a result they have been selected by Youth Dance England to appear at the Youth Dance Platform at St Austell this Sunday, February 27. Some of the pieces will be chosen from this event to go on to perform at the Youth Dance Platform in Birmingham. Caroline said it was great to have been chosen ? even if their ?youth? were up to 71 years old! They had also auditioned for a variety show in the West End of London which takes groups from all over the country ? and had been accepted to perform at Her Majesty?s Theatre, Haymarket on April 3. ?One of our dancers had invited her son to see the performance at the Hall for Cornwall, but he said he?d only come and see her if she danced in the West End. She?s now contacting him to invite him there!? Caroline said. Performers from the studios held a special event at Callington College at the end of January to raise money for the tsunami appeal, and the three performances raised £3,245. Caroline said the effort had been ?well worth it?. ?It was a bit chaotic at rehearsals but all the performances went really well,? she said. DVDs of the event are available from Caroline on 01822 835859, with proceeds going to the appeal.
