THERE?S an opportunity to dance the night away at a special event being held in Tavistock tomorrow (Friday), when the clock will be turned all the way back to the 1940s. The 40s Dance is being held in the town hall, when AJ?s Big Band will be providing a night of vibrant, swinging music ? plus the odd nostalgic ballad. It is a band which has built up an enthusiastic following and a great reputation throughout the West Country. Dave Evans, town hall manager, said: ?This is the fourth year we have held a 40s dance and it keeps getting better every year. ?Unfortunately, we can?t do the buffet this year because of the town hall?s kitchen refurbishment, but it should still be a fantastic night.? Dave said he hoped as many people as possible would get into the 1940s spirit and dress in period costume ? there will be prizes for the best-dressed couple and the best jiving couple. ?AJ?s Big Band is an 18-piece outfit that you just can?t fail to get up on your feet and dance to ? we also have a few members of the Tavonions who will be dressed in authentic costume ? they are acting as ushers for us.? The 40s Dance night starts at 8pm ? doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £14 and are available from the town hall ticket line on 01822 617232 (most credit cards welcome) or the pannier market office on 01822 611003. Some tickets may be available on the door.
