IN common with Cllr Eberlie, Cllr Mathew is still in the 80s on mobile phone technology. Then, the scientists who advised governments on the safety aspects came from the nuclear and microwave industries and placed mobile phone technology in the same category. The danger was therefore seen as thermal.

I agree with Cllr Mathew that the thermal transmissions of mobile phones are too weak to break chemical bonds or heat up tissue. But this is not the risk with mobile phones as I explained in my letter.

Mobile phone radiation is now widely acknowledged by scientists and doctors all over the world to be detrimental to the well-being of humans.

I did not imply a conclusion to the Swedish research as Cllr Mathew states, I quoted the findings of that research. I could have quoted equally damning results from studies carried out in Russia, Holland, France and Australia.

In October 2002, thousands of German doctors put their names to the Freiburger Appeal which blamed mobile phone technology for ?a dramatic rise in severe and chronic diseases among our patients? living in the vicinity of newly erected mobile phone masts.

Putting things into perspective, we are much more likely to suffer from cancer and related problems with the unstoppable advance of the mobile phone.

We are all participants in the biggest epidemiological experimental study in history!

Naturally, I hope a mast doesn?t fall on the Cllr?s head and that he doesn?t boil his brain by using his mobile as he will not be able to claim on insurance because no insurance company in the world will take on the mobile phone companies? liability!
