SHOWING it is among the 'creme de la creme' when it comes to dairy produce is GF Dairy at Risdon Farm near Jacobstowe.
The dairy won a silver award for their plain cream cheese in the annual regional Taste of the West awards.
What makes the prestigious award even more special is that GF Dairy is not just a commercial business, it is part of a social enterprise supporting Gilead Foundations, a residential rehabilitation centre helping people with drug and alcohol abuse and related problems.
The sales of its 'Naturally Wholesome' dairy produce directly supports the charity, enabling GF to give people the opportunity to rebuild their lives in a farm environment.
Liz Poole-Warren, the sales and marketing manager for GF Dairy told the Times: 'We are thrilled that in our first attempt in the Taste of the West awards we achieved a silver for our plain cream cheese. That really raises the bar for next year!'
Among GF Dairy customers are the Hallwood farm shop in Okehampton, a delicatessen in Exeter, a couple of local pubs and the Arvon Foundation at Sheepwash.
Liz added: 'We are attending local farmers' markets as well as food exhibitions and have a considerable amount of regular customers both at these and as doorstep delivery customers.
'At present we are aiming to raise the profile of the produce in the Tavistock area and are hoping to commence doorstep deliveries soon.'
