OKEHAMPTON Cycle Club's open ten mile time trial last Wednesday evening drew an entry of 50 riders from all over the South West. With the threat of bad weather it was a relief to the organisers that even with an overcast evening sky and light drizzle conditions it remained dry for most of the competitors. The course starts on the A30 dual carriageway 2.4 miles west of Sourton, and proceeds towards Launceston before turning at the Stowford Cross slip road, crossing the flyover bridge and returning on the eastbound carriageway to the finish. Fastest on the night was Karl Hodson, clocking 21 mins 22 secs, closely followed by Phil Borrett on 21.26. Results: K Hodson (Triggon jjcoach), 21.22; P Borrett (Bikeinmotion), 21.26; S Hall (Alltrax), 21.27; A Holmes (Mid Devon), 21.54. OCC member Mike Cory was the fastest club rider with 24.18 and Jacky Rice took the first lady prize with a time of 25.21. At the post race prize giving Robert Szembek, the club chairman, thanked everyone for participating with special thanks for the event organiser Ian Dudley and race marshals, timekeepers, ladies providing the refreshments and friends of Okehampton CC, who helped to make the event a success.
