FAMILIES looking for some entertainment during half-term are invited to a day of cycling fun at Tavistock Community College on Saturday, October 30.

Devon County Council is hosting the free event from 10am to 3pm to help give families advice on the best way to get around by bike.

As well as family bike games and short guided leisure rides with a qualified cycle instructor, there will be the opportunity for people to try equipment including child seats, trailers and tag-alongs. A small number of adult bikes will be available to hire free of charge, in order to try the equipment, but to avoid disappointment please bring your own bike.

Children can also take part in sessions to learn to ride without stabilisers, and there will be plenty of information available on training courses and routes.

Cllr Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: 'There's been a great buzz around cycling in Tavistock, especially with a Tour of Britain stage starting there last month. Hopefully, we can encourage people to consider cycling more often, whether it's children to cycling to school or adults commuting to work."

Councillor Debo Sellis, Devon County councillor for Tavistock, said: 'This is an excellent opportunity for residents to find out what Tavistock has to offer. There are miles of cycle tracks locally and a world of adventure and discovery for all ages and abilities. It can be good for your health and your spirit — why not give it a try?'

Tavistock is one of the county council's five cycling hub towns around Devon, where it is promoting leisure cycling to encourage more people to take to two wheels.
