A HITTESLEIGH family cycling from John O' Groats to Land's End to raise money for cystic fibrosis will be having a pit stop at Okehampton today (Thursday.)

Seven-year-old cystic fibrosis sufferer Bow Cann, who is taking part in the ride, will be entering the record books when he becomes the youngest person ever to complete the challenge at the weekend.

He and his three siblings, plus mum and dad, had raised more than £4,000 before they started out from John O' Groats on July 1— and they are hoping to raise a lot more on the way.

They will be in Okehampton at 1pm today. They will be greeted by mayor Christine Marsh at the town hall, where an open day is being held. Any support by townspeople will be welcome.

Although the challenge has not been without incident — Calamity Cann broke her elbow en route — the family have battled on with great determination.

The cycling mad super-fit family have been taking young Bow on cycling holidays since he was two-and-a-half and since then the leisure activity has become second nature to him.

His mum Sam said despite her son's disease, which meant he had to take pills with everything he ate and received, regular physiotherapy to keep his lungs clear, he was fitter than most children his age and had a determination to achieve amazing things.

The Cann family challenge has been supported by Jag Communications in Okehampton, who have been collecting money and coming up with fundraising ideas over the past few months to help the cause.
