Torrington U14s 0 Okehampton U14s 24 OKEHAMPTON forwards took on the big Torrington pack and out-rucked and out-mauled them with Rob Long, Luke Crocker and Scott Simpson leading the way. Tom McGratton organising and putting in a crunching tackle, scrum-half Richard Friend only moving the ball to the backs when the forwards came to a halt. Wing Carl Goodall crossed the line first, but the referee disallowed it for a double movement. Soon after, Long broke out of the back of a maul to run in under the post from the 22m line. Carl Poynton converted and also scored the second try with a clever chip over the Torrington centres, then collecting the ball to score. Half time 0-12. The second half was much the same, with good forward play forcing Torrington to give away a penalty 5m out ? Tom Browne scoring with a quick tap and dive. Browne also converted. The final try came when the first centre David Binns stepped back inside his opposite number and was tackled 7m short of the try line. He made a good pass out of the tackle to Long, whose strength and weight carried him over the line.
