I HOPE very much that the West Devon Councillors will reconsider their heartless decision to cut the funding to the Ring and Ride service. Let them put themselves in the same position as the many lonely, infirm and isolated old people struggling to maintain their independence in the scattered villages of West Devon, with no means of access to shops and essential services. It was a revelation to me, recently, when injury put me temporarily in this situation, and my wife and I discovered this service and learnt how much it meant to its many regular users. Without it, none of them would have been able to leave the vicinity of their home; and this was the one day in the week when they could do so, because the service helps so many old and disabled people, and has to cover different districts each day. Nor is it a free charity, because everyone pays a return fare. I cannot believe anyone could be so unkind and unthinking as to make these helpless people the victims of the borough?s financial problems. A E Rowe 3 Great Mis Tor Close Yelverton
