Okehampton Cup final Okehampton 1st XI. 1 Witheridge .........2 OKEHAMPTON failed to find the motivation to repeat a second cup-final victory in a week, this time bowing out to a Witheridge side that looked better in almost every department. Early pressure from Witheridge failed to produce a goal, although a couple of shots were only just wide of the mark. Then in the 20th minute a rare goal from Neil Agnew, who scored with a swerving shot from just inside the box, put Argyle ahead against the run of play. An injury to Kevin Gill forced Argyle to reshuffle their defence, but still found them under constant pressure and only several outstanding saves from keeper Neil Clift kept them ahead at half-time. The second half was no different with Clift in action straight from the kick-off, pulling off a double save to deny the eager Witheridge forwards. After James Williams and Chris Wills had both kicked goal-bound shots off the line it was inevitable that Witheridge was going to score. The goal came after 73 minutes, when a right wing cross was headed in by Alan Sawer to level the scores. Despite further good defending, especially from Mike Vernon and Williams, Witheridge scored again ten minutes from time. Now Argyle?s task for Saturday must be to concentrate on a win against Exmouth Town and at the same time do Witheridge a big favour. Both clubs are in with a chance of winning the league, but Argyle?s chance of staying in the Premier league would be better if Witheridge won the title. Kick-off 3pm.
