THE team behind cult television show Black Mirror has been filming the next installment of the award-winning show on northern Dartmoor, between Okehampton and Tavistock, it has been confirmed to the Times.

Created by Charlie Booker, the critically acclaimed series of self-contained episodes, which began life on Channel 4 before switching to Netflix in 2016, is due for release later this year.

Rae Langford, a spokesperson for Black Mirror’s production company Zeppotron, said: ‘We can confirm filming is taking place on Dartmoor.’

A spokeswoman for Dartmoor National Park Authority said: ‘Film crews for Black Mirror have been filming on the northern part of Dartmoor, between the Okehampton and Tavistock area.

‘Filming took place last week between April 10 and 14.’

The science fiction series is centred around dark and satirical themes that examine modern society, particularly with regard to unexpected consequences of new technologies.

It’s rumoured that Life of Pi actor Rafe Spall is among the cast after appearing in the 2014 Black Mirror Christmas special ‘White Christmas’.

A Launceston resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said that the cast were staying at the recently refurbished Eagle House Hotel in Launceston.

She said she believed they rented out all 20 rooms.

Creator Charlie Brooker is a renowned satirist who has been involved with a number of other popular shows.

In addition to writing for The 11 O’Clock Show and Brass Eye, Brooker has presented a a host of television shows, including 10 O’Clock Live, Screenwipe, Gameswipe, Newswipe and Weekly Wipe.

He also wrote the five-part drama Dead Set — a zombie horror set in a ‘Big Brother’ style house which featured a guest appearance from Davina McCall and was nominated for the 2009 Best Drama Serial BAFTA .

Brooker has previously written comment pieces for national newspapers and is one of four creative directors of Zeppotron, the company which produces Black Mirror.

This isn’t the first time Dartmoor has been selected for filming as other popular shows and films including Hollywood blockbuster War Horse, BBC smash hit Sherlock and The Hound of the Baskervilles starring Dudley Moore and Peter Cook have been filmed there.
