MEMBERS of Bere Ferrers WI started their 50th anniversary celebrations with a river cruise last weekend.

They were joined by members from Whitchurch, Tavistock, Gulworthy, the High Moorland and Mary Tavy WI groups for the cruise on the Spirit of Plymouth, which took the ladies up the River Tamar to Calstock.

During the cruise, which included a splendid buffet, there was a raffle and the celebration cake, decorated by Caroline Clark with the Bere Ferrers rainbow logo, was cut.

There will be a series of events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the WI in Bere Ferrers. On Tuesday, July 13, there will be a visit to the Ambrosia Factory at Lifton — 50 years after the very first outing made by the newly formed group. On Sunday, October 13, the nearest Sunday to the date of the first meeting of Bere Ferrers WI, there will be a service in St Andrew's Church followed by a bring and share lunch for members, family and friends.
