THERE were two fires in Lifton over the weekend and a hedge fire near a playground in Callington.

Fire crews received a report of a fire in a garden at Leat Road, Lifton at 10.30pm on Saturday. The garden included a shed which was well alight.

A gas cylinder was removed from the premises and cooled and firefighters from Launceston used a ground monitor and two hosereels to bring the blaze under control by 11.10pm. They remained on scene for a further 40 minutes, damping down.

One appliance with off-road capability was mobilised from Launceston to a forager on fire in a field at Kelly on Sunday at 4.15pm and one hose reel was used to put it out.

A crew from Callington attended a hedge fire near to the playground at the town's Tamar Close involving 18 metres of hedge on Sunday at 1pm.

The fire was believed to have been started accidentally.
