THE OCKMENT Centre's community creche is to extend its services to parents in the town who are not actually involved in activities at the centre.

The creche has been extended to cope with the extra demand and it is hoped that a drop-in system will be used so that mums and dads who might suddenly need an hour or two to themselves can use the facility.

Thanks to fundraising efforts and a donation from Waitrose, the centre has purchased pagers so that parents who may be at the doctors for example, can be contacted immediately by creche staff.

The opening hours and prices are available from the Ockment Centre which can be contacted on 01837 53276.

Opened in January, the creche was created with funds from many sources, including the Nationwide Foundation, Rural Development Programme, Early Years Partnership and Okehampton Lions, Rotary and Inner Wheel clubs.

Around 70 children have used the facility in the first six months.
