STALL holders are being sought for a craft and gift fair which will raise funds for a specialist cancer charity. The Cavitron Fund provides relief and treatment for people with brain or spinal tumours by providing facilities and health care not normally available on the NHS. Okehampton councillor Edna Hicks is organising a craft and gift market at Fairplace Hall to raise funds for the charity. Mrs Hicks? late husband Rex had a life saving operation thanks to the cavitron, a piece of machinery designed to cut out brain tumours. Mrs Hicks said when her husband visited Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, he was told he had only days to live, but a surgeon gave up his time off to carry out the operation the following day. Following the surgery, Mr Hicks made a partial recovery and enjoyed ten more months with his family. ?I feel for what they did for Rex, I?ve got to help,? Mrs Hicks said. The first market will be on October 13, and it is hoped it will become a monthly event. Anyone interested in running a stall can contact Mrs Hicks on 01837 55915.
