FIRE crews had to walk half a mile to rescue a cow stuck in a bog at Cox Tor, Merrivale on Monday around 8.30pm.

A crew from Tavistock, a specialist rescue vehicle, an RSPCA inspector and a veterinary surgeon attended to help the cow, which was up to its haunches in the bog.

Crews released the animal, unharmed, and led it to dry land, using rescue lines, strops and lighting equipment just after midnight.
