OKEHAMPTON College has confirmed that one its student has tested positive for Covid-19.

The college said in a statement last night (Wednesday): ‘As our families are aware, we were notified earlier today of a confirmed positive case of coronavirus amongst our students.

‘After liaison with the Department for Education and Public Health England, and in strict line with Government guidance, we identified a small number of students and members of staff who have been in close contact with the student who has tested positive, all of whom are now isolating at home.

‘All other students can and should attend school as normal.’

The college added: ‘The student who has tested positive is well, and we have sent them and their family our warmest wishes and unequivocal support. We have also passed on the many well-wishes that many families have offered and do so again publicly here.

‘Whilst we thank all families and students for their typically unwavering cooperation and support today, we would also like to express our gratitude for their thoughtfulness, empathy, and kindness.’
