A TOP award was scooped by Tavistock Hospital's League of Friends at a special event held in Torbay recently.
The Friends group was awarded the coveted 2012 Blue Shield Gold Award at a special ceremony held at the International Riviera Centre.
The award recognises groups whose energy, commitment and dedication helps to ensure that high quality services are delivered to patients in hospital.
A spokesperson for Tavistock Hospital League of Friends said: 'Tavistock League has helped to improve facilities and equipment at Tavistock Hospital over many years.
'At the ceremony, it was mentioned that millions of pounds had been donated to the community hospitals over the last ten years, and their contributions were significant in maintaining high standards in hospitals.'
Tavistock Hospital League of Friends is able to support the hospital as a result of donations from individuals and companies who see the value of maintaining a quality local hospital.
The spokesman said: 'With current changes to health services, it is believed that there will be an increasing requirement to support the hospital and in particular, the league is working with the hospital to improve Tavistock Clinic, which currently houses a number of activities, including the Triangle Centre for chemotherapy outreach.'
The league of friends welcomes volunteers to help with their activities and fundraising.
