HOME-START Tavistock, Plymouth and South Hams is hoping for a bumper crop of new volunteers, thanks to support from a Plymouth Hotel.

The Legacy Hotel at Marsh Mills is supporting Home-Start in its aim to reach its target number of volunteers, by offering the charity a venue for its next 10 week volunteer training course.

Home-Start, which is currently funded by the Big Lottery Fund to offer one-to-one support to families with a child under five who are experiencing difficulties, is 20 volunteers short of its recruitment target for this year.

Andrea Chandler, scheme manager, said: 'The response from people has been amazing.

'We have already recruited nearly 100 volunteers with many going on into education or employment as a result of working with us. We offer volunteers 40 hours initial training, which can be accredited, and on-goping support and career development if needed.

'We are delighted that the Legacy Hotel has agreed to provide a venue for the training.

'It is an excellent example of how business and the voluntary sector can work together.'

The course will begin on April 18 and the project is keen to hear from anyone with parenting experience who would like to support families in their local communities. To find out more, contact 01548 854513.
