OKEHAMPTON couple Doris and Harold Bradley recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary with Royal approval having received a card of congratulation from the Queen.
They celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at the Tors Hotel at Belstone with family and friends on April 8.
The couple had wed at Newport on the Isle of Wight on April 8, 1944. Harold was born at Tonge End and went to school in South Zeal and later in Okehampton. He had been stationed at Newport during the war where he had met Doris, who worked in an aircraft factory , at a dance.
That summer Harold was one of the soldiers who took part in the Normandy landings. After the war, he worked for W J Cornish Jewellers, before reverting to his previous occupation as a plumber.
The couple?s daughter Caroline made a special diamond shaped cake for the occasion. The Bradleys also have one grand-daughter.
