THERE were romantic memories galore when a couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Back in 1961, Jasmine and Tony Davey spent their honeymoon at the Two Bridges Hotel on Dartmoor — and last month they returned to the venue to celebrate their 50 years together.
The couple spent six nights at the Two Bridges Hotel on their honeymoon in 1961 — as a surprise gift their daughter bought them a weekend break at the same hotel for their golden wedding anniversary.
Mrs Davey said: 'It was a complete surprise, we always wanted to go back there. It has gone very much upmarket and luxurious since we were last there.
'The staff were amazing, they gave us a bottle of champagne and upgraded our room when we told them our story. It was a wonderful weekend.'
The couple have kept the original receipt from when they honeymooned at the hotel — back in 1961 their six-night stay cost them just £26.11s.6d (£26.57.5p).?The price included a lunch, teas, six shillings (30p) for wine, and 12s.6d (62.5p) for five nights' garage parking.
Mrs Davey said that while on their honeymoon, a prisoner escaped from Dartmoor Prison and they had to lock their rooms while the police searched the hotel. Luckily, this time they enjoyed a more relaxing break!
Mr Davey has family around West Devon.?His mother was from Horrabridge and his uncle had a butchers in Crapstone.
The couple used to visit West Devon when they were courting and now live in Didcot in Oxfordshire.
