A TAVISTOCK man has received an unexpected honour, after his spectacular crafts tent caught the eye of judges at this year?s Devon County Show.
David Stambury?s big top marquee, containing around 40 stalls displaying arts and crafts, was awarded the prestigious title of ?most attractive show ground feature?.
David runs Launceston-based Enterprise Tamar, which provides free, confidential advice to small businesses.
For the last six years, Enterprise Tamar has organised a tent for traders to display their wares at the Devon County Show.
David was thrilled and surprised when the 30ft high marquee was singled out from hundreds of other features.
?Apparently, the judges were impressed with the variety, colour and lighting we had in our tent,? he said. ?It?s certainly a feather in our cap, when you consider we were competing with virtually every other feature on the show ground.
?As far as I know, we were up against everything bar the livestock and show jumping displays, and that includes the flower show and the food and drink pavilion.?
David?s prize was a silver gilt shield mounted on a wooden scroll.
The prize-winning tent contained an extensive mixture of exhibitions, including jewellery, paintings, pottery, textiles, hand-made candles and leather.
David said about 15,000 people visited the tent over the three days.
