UNDER communism, we have seen that people were ruled by an elected body who vote en-bloc, considering their own interests only. They make rules from a distance and do not consult with local people or consider their wishes or interests. the good of the many over-rides the good of the few.
Under the Conservative Government David Cameron is committed to ensuring that the opposite is the case and the people at local level govern their own interests. He calls this the 'Big Society'.
However, in Devon this is different. Following the open Tavistock Town Council meeting held in the town hall on December 1, we now know that the decision of Devon County Council to erect parking meters in Tavistock was driven by the Conservative majority at county level with Conservative members 'required' by the leadership to vote in favour of this.
This means that Devon County Council, under Conservative domination, is operating a communist system — so much for the Big Society.
I think we should re-name our county council as it stands and it should become 'Devon Soviet County Council'. The difference between an extreme left wing approach to the people and that of the current Conservative administration seems to me to be wafer thin.
Let your views be known or be forever dominated.
