THE Easter weekend sees the return of an exciting event in Hatherleigh, with 2013's first Saturday market.

The Ruby Country Market was set up last year to recreate a bustling, traditional market in the heart of the community. The first Ruby Market of 2013 will take place at the market site on Saturday, March 30.

There will be a range of stalls selling a wide variety of goods and wares. Among the attractions is Herbie, a five-year-old rescued Golden Guernsey goat, who will be walking around the market with his owner Marion White, dressed in matching bug coats.

The market will be Herbie's first outing on a lead.

There will also be a merry-go-round, covered wagon rides, a book signing by Liz Shakespeare and Pamela Vass, and a gypsy wagon and a 1946 Standard 8 Tourer car will be on display.

Two more Saturday markets are currently planned for 2013 on July 6 and December 7.

As in 2012, the events will support the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.
