FOR many years I lived in Hatherleigh and went to school and worked in Okehampton.

I spent many happy evenings with friends at the Countryman Inn in Sampford Courtenay but any visit there was totally incomplete without a dessert of Country Lady Gateau.

Sadly I had to move away from the area so missed my regular visits to this lovely establishment. Through marriage and divorce I still managed to get down to the area and make visits to The Countryman, until I became too disabled to drive that far.

I know that the Countryman has changed hands a number of times since I was able to last visit and that Country Lady Gateau was no longer on the menu the last time I did manage to get there.

I was wondering if you had a reader out there who knew the recipe for this amazing dessert. I reach a big milestone birthday soon and would love to be able to serve it at my party.
