MORE than £500 was raised for church funds in Gulworthy recently, when St Paul?s Church held its first ever Christmas tree festival. Twenty illuminated trees were on display during a celebration evening at which parishioners were able to pass on their good wishes to Preb John Rawlings, who has now left the area. A further £60 was raised by carol singers who toured the parish during December, which was split between church funds and the SightSavers charity ? £70 was raised during the carol service and Christingle service on Christmas Eve, which was donated to the Children?s Society. Also held during the festive period was the annual senior citizens? lunch organised by Lowenna Edwards and Rose Steer, when diners were also treated to singing by the pupils from Gulworthy School. The next challenge for parishioners will be much-needed improvement works to the heating system at St Paul?s. A major fundraising event, the Gulworthy Country Festival, will be held on Saturday July 22, when it is hoped the community will come along and support the church.
