ALL the hard work by so many people after months of preparation are about to be rewarded when the Okehampton Show opens its doors next Thursday (August 12) at the Stoney Park showground.
In one of West Devon's highlights of the year, the thousands of people who pour through the show gates will have plenty to keep them entertained, including vintage vehicles, tug of war, falconry displays, and a lively sheep show.
There will be more than 300 trade stalls and the Devon Food Hall will be offering the very best of the county's food and drink.
The one day show places much emphasis on its rural roots and there will be plenty for the farming community to enjoy with livestock competitions and agricultural machinery on display.
Show organiser Gilly Oliver told the Times: 'Another Okehampton Show is fast approaching and the transformation of the showground is about to start.
'It is extraordinary how this tented 'village' suddenly appears and even more quickly disappears following the show.
'To make this happen, as well as using contractors, it takes a great deal of work by a team of volunteers who give their time to put it all together — and what a great job they do!
'Showday morning, for me, is the culmination of many months' work when I have to just watch it all slot into place — a somewhat nerve-wracking few hours!'
Gilly said the show provided a day out for everyone, whether their interests lay in the farming world or not, as there was so much to see and do.
'The location, overlooking the moors, is spectacular and it's a great place to meet up with friends and family and have a relaxing time.
'First time visitors are often surprised at the size of the event so come along and see what Okehampton Show has to offer — you will be assured of a warm welcome.'
Tickets cost £8 per adult in advance (£10 on showday), £3 child 5-15, under fives free, family ticket (two adults, two children £20).
They can be obtained in Okehampton from Donald's Menswear, Okeford Veterinary Centre and Mole Avon or from the Tourist Information Centre in Court Gate, Tavistock.
