MY son tried to arrange un-paid work experience in an accountancy firm for this summer before starting his final year at university. After sending out 30 letters and only receiving five replies he secured a place with a local company who would take him for two weeks. This unfortunately fell through at the last minute, but undeterred he contacted local accountancy firms by telephone and in person.

James is holding down two small jobs at university and works all summer, no mean feat when on course for a first. I cannot say how disappointed I am that as someone who always supports local businesses that not one firm in Devon and Cornwall could help.
