IT has taken six translators more than 20 years, but now some of the bible can be read online — in Cornish. The New Testament and Psalms are now available as an app for smartphones. Translator Graham Sandercock said it was 'disgraceful' it had taken so long to see the New Testament produced in Cornish. He said: 'The Cornish are very proud of their heritage. The language is becoming more respectable. 'The National Minority status has made a difference, but there was impetus before that.' In 1549 thousands of Cornish were killed as they fought to oppose the introduction of the English Prayer Book. The Cornish Bible App, supported by the Bible Society, was translated from Hebrew and Greek and drew on other Celtic languages, including Breton where Cornish words weren't available. There are an estimated 500 fluent Cornish speakers.
