Essanians 1
Tavistock Ladies 1st 4
TAVISTOCK Ladies' hockey team attacked from the off with an excellent ball from Sue Cork across the top of the D.
It was well met by Laura Armstrong who powered it away.
Essanians hit right back with a fine strike at goal, Babs Horton tried to deflect the ball away but ended up beating her own keeper.
Horton breathed a sigh of relief when Sue Cork turned in the D and smacked it into the back of the net, Tavistock leading at half-time 2-1.
In the second half Essanians attacked but were met by the solid defence of Mary Johnson and Fiona Dunn.
Tavistock's third goal came from a short corner by Sue Cork. Susannah Harland pulled it back into the D and struck it into the back of the net.
Judy Smallacombe made it 4-1 to make it a good strong win for Tavistock.
Lady of the match: Fiona Dunn.
Tavistock Ladies 2nd XI 4
Mannamead 3rd XI 1
TAVISTOCK were somewhat ragged in the opening quarter finding it difficult to settle to their task.
An early goal by Mannamead, scored following an excellent forward movement gave Tavistock, the incentive they needed.
The score was soon levelled with a goal from Sue Gawman and Tavistock took the attack from that point. The second from a skirmish on the goal-line was credited to Tavistock's youngest player, Sarah Creates.
The half-time score for 2-1 and instructions from the coach to use positional play to better advantage saw an eager team in the second half.
Due to some spirited defence from Zoe Viggers, Katie Creates and Judy Smallacombe Mannamead did not pose much of a threat.
Two more goals, both from Smallacombe, saw a satisfying result.
Thanks to Laura Armstrong for standing in goal.
l The second team are still looking for enthusiastic players. Please contact Judy Ricketts on 01822 853867 if you are interested.
