Tavistock AFC 4

Torpoint Athletic 1

WITH the Lambs almost returning to a full strength team, they gave a much improved performance than in previous weeks and ran out comfortable winners against a strong Torpoint side.

The home team started brightly and in the fourth minute John Wyatt broke clear of the visitor's defence only to be pulled back by a very close off side decision.

The Lambs took the lead in the 14th minute when a tremendous move down the right flank involving Dave Hallett, John James, and Johnny Wyatt, sent Kiely free, his pass found Dan Pethick played a first time ball to James, Pethick continued his run to meet the return ball from James and fire home from six yards.

The home team played some great football and should have increased their lead before the interval but Ben Elphick was in fine form and denied Sargent on two occasions, with fine saves.

The Lambs doubled their lead ten minutes into the second half when Tom Barwells left wing cross found Matt David at the far post and his header found the top corner of the net.

A minute later the visitors reduced the arrears when Dan Johns set up Stuart Rickard to fire home an unstoppable shot from 18 yards.

The Lambs restored their two goal lead when in the 60th minute Dave Hallett provided the perfect cross for Andy Sargent to head home.

The home team continued to dominate with both Dave Hallett and Jimmy Keily controlling the middle of the park.

The scoring was completed in the dying minutes when substitute Paul Chuwen picked a ball in midfield after a poor clearance by the visitors, and made a penetrating run and unleash a tremendous drive from 20 yards, that gave the visiting goal keeper no chance.

This was a much better performance by the Lambs as they returned to their pass and move strategy that they produced earlier in the season.

Dave Hallet and Jimmy Keily were outstanding in the middle of the park and Tom Barwell had a fine game at left back.

The whole team can take credit for the convincing victory and if they consistently produce this level of performance they will be a challenge to anyone in the league.

The first team have no fixture on Saturday.

On Boxing Day they visit high-flying local rivals Launceston, 3pm KO.
