Okehampton Second XV 48
Kingsbridge Second XV 16
OKEHAMPTON Second XV?s good start to the season continued at Oaklands Park on Saturday with a convincing victory over their South Hams opponents.
Despite playing up the slope and falling behind to an early penalty the home side were soon to take the lead with a fine Dave Wills try, following a good passing movement.
The Okehampton pack, strengthened by the return from the Falkland Islands of prop Dave Howarth, performed excellently against the much larger Kingsbridge forwards and it was clear from the outset that the slick Okehampton backs had a clear advantage over their Kingsbridge counterparts.
Not even the unfortunate loss of Steve Cook after some 20 minutes with a suspected broken hand could disrupt the rhythm of the Okehampton side and further tries followed from Toby Daniel, Adam Curtis, a second for Dave Wills, Jamie Hoggins, Philip Heard (two) and Charlie Ewen. Three conversions were made by Dave Mugliston and one by veteran number 8 Mark Curtis.
The Okehampton First XV also enjoyed a fine win over their Kingsbridge rivals, beating them 29-25 away in the Devon and Cornwall league.
Next week sees the first team in league action at home against Newquay Hornets while the seconds travel to play OPMs in Plymouth.
