IT WAS interesting to see the UKIP writing a letter about Conservative policy because I do not know which party is most confusing?
A party has a poster in its Okehampton branch window saying 'don't go metric, foot, pint and pound are perfectly sound'. This is a contradiction in terms because the pound is a metric measurement. Are they trying to say they want to scrap the pound and bring back the imperial pound of pre 1972?
A party that calls itself the United Kingdom Independent party is a contradiction in terms. If their main policy is independent sovereignty and to pull out of any United Kingdom of Europe, then why are they not called the English Independent Party, because they must believe England should have independent sovereignty away from the British common market? After all, Scottish citizens get 19 per cent more spent on them than English citizens. They must also be against us having the same single currency as Scotland and Wales.
They warn us about our interest rates being set by an unelected European body, but I would like to know who on the Bank of England Monetary Committee was democratically elected by the people of the South West to represent their needs, so that interest rates could be set for the inflationary needs of the whole country not just the rich of the South East.
The Bank of England's latest reason for keeping the interest rate higher than Europe is that the pound would weaken and then imports would not have a competitive advantage and people might start buying British goods, and they don't want that!
They also warn us that we would have to pay the same taxes as Europe. We pay 86 per cent tax on petrol, the highest in the EU, so that must be trying to say petrol could be cheaper if we stay in. UK trade with non EU countries for May was £1.79 billion — and £2.28 billions for April.
