Whitchurch v Ivybridge

WITH confidence high after recent success, Whitchurch won the toss and batted first.

They suffered a setback in the first over when Smith played a loose drive and was caught and bowled by Warden.

Skipper Newton and Probert then looked to build a total, both playing delightful shots off the back foot through the covers.

They added 25 before Warden broke through again, having Probert brilliantly caught down the legside by the keeper (Jeffrey).

The introduction of Willacy was decisive as a perfectly pitched outswinger bowled Newton.

Wickets began to tumble regularly and despite Hulbert defending solidly and a flourish from the effervescent Derbyshire it was left to last pair Churchill and Llewin to battle for five overs, before Abrahams produced another good outswinger to bowl Llewyn.

Whitchurch were all out for a meagre 58 runs.

When Ivybridge batted, Willacy completed a fine match with a rapid 37, with the Whitchurch bowlers unable to contain him. When Newton lured him into a false shot, with Churchill taking a well judged catch at cover point Ivybridge were already assured of victory.
