LEARNING and development leapt towards continued success at Okehampton College last week. The college hosted a major professional development opportunity for the whole of the Okehampton Learning Community. The personal development conference was attend by all eleven feeder primary schools from the area with 150 governors, teachers, teaching assistants, headteachers and mealtime assistants taking part in a variety of workshops and training activities. The day provided the Learning Community with a chance for personal development, teaching development and pastoral development by incorporating a wide range of activities and workshops. Staff were able to choose which workshops they felt would give them the most benefit. The selection included everything from pilates, clay modelling, gymnastics, modern foreign languages, ICT and how to create dazzling displays. Children from North Tawton Primary School also took the chance to be involved by leading a whole community aerobics session in the main hall ? this was an opportunity for all staff to develop their own physical fitness. Headteacher of North Tawton Primary Nick D?Agorne said: ?This was designed to show how the children normally start the day at their school, to develop a healthy body and to stimulate the brain. ?It certainly got the blood flowing to everyone?s head and was well appreciated by all who took part. ?The day concluded with a final activity session from ?Drum Crazy? when all staff took part in a grand drumming finale. This was a fitting end to a very successful and very active day.?
