A CHARITY set up by a Bere Ferrers man to raise money for schools has recently donated funds to help complete two projects in Ghana.
The Copper Trust, which operates in West and East Devon and East Cornwall, gave £190 to a building project in St James School in Angona Swedru, a small town in the south of the country.
The school?s kindergarten was previously made of wood and the money raised will go towards replacing the building with a concrete structure.
Adam Musgrave initiated the Copper Trust in 2002 with his fiancee, Katrine Green, and the couple were originally involved in a project to develop links between schools in West Devon and Ghana.
The trust consists of a network of people who put their small change aside and donate it to the cause. They believe that this method of fundraising has the advantage of generating an ongoing fund for the various causes rather than a one-off donation.
A letter from Felcie Marfo, a teacher at the school, said: ?We are overwhelmed with your generosity and wish to express our profound gratitude to you. We wish to assure you that the money will be used for a worthy cause.?
A further £60 was given by the charity to help fix a water pump in a remote village called Essaman in the western region.
The hand pump had been broken for several months and the villagers were beginning to become ill from drinking the local river water.
Adam and Katrine are now living in London where Katrine works for Christian Aid and Adam is working for Amnesty International. The couple are currently in West Africa again, working for these two organisations.
