A CONCERT of Remembrance will be taking place at Lamerton Church next week entitled 'For the Fallen' to raise money for SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailers, Airmen and Families Association).
The concert on Friday, November 7 at 7.30pm is free of charge, with a collection to be held at the end.
The concert will be attended by the Deputy Mayor of Tavistock, the Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, West Devon and Torridge MP Geoffrey Cox, the Archdeacon of Plymouth and the Mayor and Portreeve of Callington. SSAFA representatives will also be in attendance and will give a short introduction to their work. The Royal British Legion will also be at the concert and its standard bearers will perform ceremonial duties at the beginning and end of the event. The Callington Singers will perform for the majority of the concert.
The event has been organised as part of the Devon Remembers Campaign by Devon County Council and the Devon Heritage Service will bring a mobile exhibition of recruitment posters for the event.
The concert is being partially funded by the Last Post Project and will include a rendition of the Last Post. Organisers hope that it will be played on a bugle which was found on the battlefields of the Western Front in 1919 and which has been restored to a playable state.
